It’s cranberry harvest season on Cape Cod – a time when the bogs turn ruby red and the air fills with crisp autumn light. Join me, my mom, and my Nonie as we explore local cranberry farms, meet the families behind the harvest, and celebrate the flavors that inspire my Cape Cod catering, recipes, and my cookbook Grazing Cape Cod.

Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest Season – Celebrating Local Flavor from Bog to Board
There’s something magical about cranberry harvest season on Cape Cod. 🍂✨ This past weekend, we were treated to record-high temperatures – a rare, golden October weekend that made the bogs glow under the sun. I spent time visiting several cranberry bogs across the Cape with my Nonie and my mom, enjoying the harvest together and watching the farmers hard at work gathering those iconic ruby-red berries. It’s one of those moments that reminds you why Cape Cod is such a special place – where food, family, and history all come together.

The Legacy of Cranberries on Cape Cod
Cranberries are one of the oldest and most celebrated crops in Massachusetts. For centuries, these vibrant berries have been a cornerstone of Cape Cod’s economy, landscape, and culinary identity. They thrive in the sandy, acidic soil of the region, creating a harvest that’s as beautiful to witness as it is delicious to taste.
One of my favorite cranberry stories is from Fresh Meadows Farm in Carver, MA – a family-run cranberry farm owned by the Fernandes family. Their deep dedication to preserving this Cape Cod tradition is featured in my book Grazing Cape Cod. Their story perfectly embodies what I love most about this region: generations working together to nurture the land and produce something that’s both timeless and local.

From the Bog to the Table
Cranberries have become one of my favorite seasonal ingredients to work with – especially in catering events across Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard. Whether I’m designing a grazing table for a coastal wedding or styling an intimate picnic overlooking the bay, cranberries always add a vibrant, festive touch.
You’ll find them woven throughout my book Grazing Cape Cod – from cozy cranberry scones and cranberry spreads to rustic sauces that pair beautifully with local cheeses, breads, and seafood. These recipes were inspired by the very farms and harvests I visit each season, capturing the essence of the Cape’s farm-to-table lifestyle.

Supporting Local Makers
This weekend, my husband and I stopped by one of our favorite local farmers markets and ran into an old friend, Deb, from Cape Cod Cranberry Harvest. She makes the most incredible cranberry-based jellies – from cranberry orange marmalade to cranberry garlic (a personal favorite on my grazing boards). Her jellies are locally made, beautifully balanced, and even available in sugar-free varieties for those looking for something lighter. If you’re local or visiting the area, I highly recommend checking out her booth – it’s Cape Cod in a jar.

Seasonal Inspiration for Your Next Event
At Grazing Cape Cod, I love incorporating seasonal ingredients like cranberries into my catering menus. They add the perfect pop of color and flavor to fall weddings, holiday gatherings, and cozy coastal events. From Cape Cod to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, cranberries are one of those ingredients that connect every table back to the land, whether they’re showcased in a cheese board centerpiece or baked into a dessert that tastes like autumn by the sea.
If you’re planning an event on Cape Cod this fall, think about adding a touch of local harvest to your menu. Pair cranberry-infused oils with fresh bread, drizzle cranberry jam over warm brie, or include a cranberry glaze on your main course for a beautiful seasonal twist.
