To make a bowl out of an autumn squash, such as a pumpkin or a butternut squash, follow these steps below:
1. Choose a medium-sized autumn squash, such as a pumpkin, butternut squash, or acorn squash. Make sure the squash is symmetrical and has a flat bottom so it can stand up on its own.
2. Cut off the top of the squash using a sharp knife to create a lid. Set the lid aside. Also slightly cut the bottom of the squash to create a flat bottom.
3. Scoop out the seeds and stringy pulp from the center of the squash using a spoon or a melon baller. Make sure to scrape the inside clean so that it can be used as a bowl. Set the seeds off to the side to then make some delicious squash or pumpkin seeds, the perfect snack!
Optional: Season the inside of the squash with salt, pepper, and any other desired seasonings, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, or brown sugar, depending on your recipe.
4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
5.. Place the squash on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil to prevent sticking.
6. Bake the squash in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until the flesh is slightly tender and easily pierced with a fork. You don’t want to cook the squash bowl too long or it wilts and becomes to soft to become a bowl.
7. Remove the squash from the oven and let it cool slightly before filling with your soup or stew.
8. Fill the hollowed-out squash with your desired soup or stew, and serve it directly in the squash bowl for a festive and seasonal presentation.
Enjoy your delicious autumn squash bowl filled with your favorite dish!
